Yes! A proper pH balance is an absolute must. Our products have a pH balance of 4.5 – 5.5.

Using a pH-balanced product reduces colour fade, breakage, split ends, and dullness. And since we want you to achieve the healthiest results for your hair, all of our products are pH-balanced. (I’m pretty sure the sound you’re hearing right now really is angels singing!)

Yes, you should always perform a ‘patch test’ before using any new products. It’s wise to rule out irritation before you commit, even if the irritant is one simple ingredient. After 20+ years behind the chair, we’ve seen it all, and a little caution goes a long way – especially when it comes to any new relationship!

To perform a patch test:

• Place a small drop of product behind your ear or in the crook of your arm
• Rub it in, about the size of a quarter is the goal
• Wait 24 hours to see the results
  • No redness, itching, burning? Go ahead and enjoy the product.
  • If you have any of these symptoms, it’s best not to continue use.
  • If you have a reaction with greater symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Mara Jade is our founder’s middle name. It was chosen as an homage to her wonderful hippie mom.

Yes. We’ve searched high and low to secure responsible packaging for all of our products.

All of our products come in PET bottles, glass, or low-waste cardboard tubes in order to make the least amount of environmental impact possible when manufacturing and producing Mara Jade.

In fact, one of the reasons we started Mara Jade is because of the beauty industry’s ‘dirty little secret’: the production of 120 billion units of plastic a year. That’s something like 877 pounds of waste per minute sent to our landfills. Disgusting, right? But we’re solution-based here at Mara Jade, and refuse to part of the problem.

PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate. That’s a fancy word for ‘very recyclable plastic’. It’s probably latin or something.

Even better, the PET bottles Mara Jade uses are made from post-consumer plastic. ‘Post-consumer’ means our bottles are made from plastic that was used to manufacture an item, which was then discarded, gathered up, cleaned and reprocessed. Products produced from post-consumer plastic close the loop, directing used plastic away from landfills and toward recycling facilities.

Please reuse or recycle these bottles responsibly!
